Boulder Panic! News: May 6, 2000 Shhhhh - listen carefully. Do you hear that? That's the sound of construction! But what's being worked on, you ask? Well - Boulder Panic! 2 is almost done! Right now, it's currently in beta, and is pretty close to being shipped. Lots of changes, and a totally new playing style for it. But - there's even more to tell! Very soon, not only will Boulder Panic! 2 be released, but everything is moving to a new server, a new domain, and a new company! Keep watching closly - changes are coming soon! Sept 30, 1999 I totally forgot to mention something - I said on the About Boulder Panic! page that I wasn't done with the full version of Boulder Panic! yet. Whoops - the full version has been shipping for about a week, and has already been updated to 1.2.1 (New game options, a way of replaying the same level again, new sound options to allow for faster speed, and an speed enhansement that make Boulder Panic! fast even on a 125x125 sized level are all in the 1.2.1 patch) Sorry for any confusion that caused - I'm going to update the About Boulder Panic! pages to help this situation. So - for those of you who waited until there was an anouncement saying it's shipping before picking up the full version - well, it's here! New Game Announcement: I'm breaking a little news here, to those who care. Boulder Panic! is about to have a second game in the series - Boulder Panic! Math! Based off the same engine as Boulder Panic!, Boulder Panic! Math should come out sometime next week. There are different game elements (9 gems, labled 1 - 9), along with the normal boulders, TNT, and walls of the full version of Boulder Panic! - however, the normal gems are gone. Boulder Panic! Math isn't directed at adults - this is a learning game for kids! Boulder Panic! Math helps to teach logic and math in a very interesting setting! Look for more information, and a demo, soon! September 30, 1999 - Boulder Panic 1.2 is released! This is probably the last major release for the demo version of Boulder Panic! 1.2 includes a full tutorial on playing the game, even better graphics, a demo of the level editor, the ability to load challenge levels, and more! Oh - and it's just plain slicker now! Also online is a demo Level Pack. These are Challenge Levels that you can download to play with the demo. September 30, 1999 - Boulder Panic 1.2 is underway already. This incorporates some of the developer's observations about learning the game, and some user comments (I've yet to get any bug reports back on 1.2, but, that's not saying much as it was only released today!) I plan on adding a couple of features to the web page between now and the 1.2 release (1.2 will probably be 3 to 4 days in development.) Look for some changes - funny, considering the paint hasn't quite dried from the inital construction of the page! So, if you have anything you want to see in 1.2, drop me a line! September 29, 1999 - Boulder Panic! 1.1 Demo released. Web pages updated. Guest Book added. Location for Boulder Panic download moved. What changed in Boulder Panic! Demo between 1.0 and 1.1? WELL - let me tell ya: New - Scoring Difficulty. I had one person complain that it was too easy. So, I added 4 setting for scores: Easy (default), Medium (you loose 3 times the value of a gem when it breaks!), Hard (9 times the value!), and Yeah, Right! - 30 times the value! If you thought it was too easy before, try a Medium sized playfield, and Yeah, Right! scoring - on mistake will pretty much cost you the game. Holler if that's still to easy...
New - Gamespeed setting. Normaly, Boulder Panic! ran in an untrotled mode - it ran just as fast as it could. However, that made it difficult to see how the pieces were moving when someone clicked on a gem or what have you. The default is Slow - great for small and medium games. It can still run without delays, based on the 4 settings in the New Game dialog. Changed - Panic Mode. Panic Mode! now works quite a bit differently. Instead of droping single gems, it now drops groups of them. Instead of picking the same target all the time, it picks different areas. Quite a bit more challenging now (and less moronic. This is what happens when at 2AM you have a brainstorm, and add a new feature - it was downright lame in the original version!) Fixed - Panic Mode. Panic Mode! had quite a few quirks when the game ended. Oops. Again... when doing things at 2 AM, it really does seem like a good idea at the time... New - Added some new graphics, and game delays. This makes things more 'intuitive' for someone who's never played it. It made perfect sense to the programmer, and perfect sense to the play testers who had the game explained to them. However, someone who's never played before, well, it made little sense. The new graphics show you how much you made or lost on gems, gold, etc. Much improvement New - Default settings for all the new options are designed to help new players understand the game. As far as I know, no one has read the directions for playing the game, so the game appears to be pretty damned weird. It makes sense with the default settings. Changed - Physics. I made some changes to the game physics. If you played the previous version, well, you can see the difference. If you haven't, don't worry about these changes - they just made things a little more realistic. Changed / Fixed - Resize, Minimize, Maximize work in an intelligent fasion now. This means that people who want to run it on a machine that can only display 640x480 now can do so - and it works on my Libretto now! September 27, 1999 - Boulder Panic! Demo released, and Boulder Panic! Web pages created - alert the media! |
